Blood-Hounds Needed. And We Don't Mean the Sniffing-Kind!
 |
Did you know that your dog can be a blood donor? Neither did I until my co-worker told me about the Animal Emergency Center's Blood Donor program.
And now that we have an outlet to share this kind of information, you'll know about it too. |
The Animal Emergency Center, 2100 W. Silver Spring Drive in Glendale, is a 24/7 emergency and critical care center. Their motto is "when seconds count... we are here for you!"
Animals, just like humans, that suffer from trauma, anemia or a bleeding disorder can require life-saving blood transfusions.
Here's what my co-worker told me, "The Animal Emergency Center is in dire need of dogs and cats to be blood donors. It's a really awesome program and has so many benefits...not to mention the fact that it's a safe & easy way to help save a pet's life! Geoffrey just became a donor and gave his first pint of blood yesterday. He did so good. I was a very proud dog mom! He's my 4th dog who's a donor."
My co-worker has a HUGE heart when it comes to animals, but she also had two dogs that needed a blood transfusion and knows first hand the gratitude felt knowing that someone took the time to donate.
Heather Darbo, the program coordinator, and the other Animal Emergency Center staff members are waiting to hear from you.
